Why It Happens Here
Most of the housing stock in and around Georgetown went up between 1956 and 1979
With a median build year of 1973. That generation of garage doors came with steel rollers riding in steel track, no nylon, no sealed bearings. Steel-on-steel rolls fine for a while, then it doesn't - the roller stem wears oval, the wheel flattens on one side, and every open or close sounds like a shopping cart with a bad wheel.
On top of that, this is a severe cold climate band
Steel rollers contract in winter and the grease inside the stem thickens or washes out over the years, so the roller binds right when the door is working hardest against cold, stiff springs. Across the six named areas that make up this service area, the pattern repeats: original 1960s-70s track and rollers that were never meant to run this long without a change.
We're not guessing at an average house
8,359 of the roughly 24,500 households in this service area own their home, and a large share of those are sitting on hardware from that same build window. If your door came with the house and nobody's touched the rollers, they're due.

Doing It Yourself
You can pull a roller yourself if the door is off its spring tension and you know which panel section to pull the hinge from - YouTube makes it look simple because for one roller, on a light door, it often is. Where people get hurt is the bottom rollers near a wound torsion spring, or trying to swap a roller while the door is held open by a 2x4 wedge instead of a real lock.
We'll be straight with you: we don't talk anyone through spring work over the phone, and we won't walk you through roller replacement on a door with a broken spring, because the two jobs are tangled together more than people expect. If it's just the top two rollers on a light single door and the springs are sound, a careful DIYer can do it with vice grips and a nut driver.
What we do recommend skipping yourself: anything involving the torsion track near the header, since that's also where the stab wounds happen. If you've already opened the door and it's grinding, dropping, or jumping track, that's a call, not a project.
Booking a Visit
We come out, look at the roller wear, the track condition, and the spring tension before we touch anything, because a worn roller on a door with a tired spring is two problems, not one. If you tell us the door is loud, dragging, or jumping track when you call, we'll bring stock for both steel and nylon rollers so we're not making a second trip.
We work the full service area around Georgetown, not just the city limits - homeowners out toward Stamping Ground, Midway, Paris, Cynthiana, Versailles, Frankfort call us for the same roller work on the same era of door. If your address falls in one of those towns, the job and the parts are the same; what changes is drive time, not the fix.
